So far, China’s textile industry’s total export volume has shown negative growth. In the first half of this year, China’s total textile and apparel exports fell by 2.3% year-on-year, but its decline has narrowed since last year and earlier this year. The industry expects that the pressure on China's textile exports will increase in the second half of this year, but there is still momentum to support it.

From the China Textile Industry Federation on the 4th, it was learned that the main reason for the continued negative growth in the total export value of the Chinese textile industry was the decline in the export prices of Chinese textile products. In the first four months of last year, China's textile and apparel export prices fell by 4% year-on-year, but at the same time, China's textile fabrics were affected by the narrowing of domestic and foreign cotton price gaps, and their competitiveness has improved. This has also played a role in narrowing the decline in China's textile exports.

Industry analysts believe that since the start of this year's slow recovery of the world economy, the recovery of foreign demand is still insufficient, and the export prospects of China's textile industry also have many uncertainties. Since the second quarter of this year, the RMB has continued to depreciate, and China's State Reserve Cotton has been actively traded. Affected by the devaluation of RMB and stabilization of cotton prices, China's textile exports in the second half of the year are expected to benefit.

In addition, it should be noted that in recent years, the EU’s overall economy has been sluggish, and China’s textile and apparel exports to the EU have been declining. In the first half of this year, China’s textile and apparel exports to the EU fell by nearly 4% year-on-year. In recent years, due to the active Sino-British economic and trade relations, the proportion of Chinese textile and apparel exports to the UK has increased. The United Kingdom is the largest market for Chinese textiles and apparel in the EU, and it is also a relatively stable market. Although China's textile and clothing exports to the EU fell overall in May this year, it still maintained a growth of about 3% in the United Kingdom. However, after the British "Brexit" referendum, the factors of market instability have increased, which may affect China's textile and apparel exports to the United Kingdom and the European Union.
